New campus manager has big plans for Golden’s College of the Rockies

After a few weeks as campus manager, Scott Fortier already has plans to improve Golden campus's College of the Rockies student experience.

Scott Fortier, the new campus manager at College of the Rockies’ Golden Campus, said he’s eager to get to know the town of Golden and hear the community’s wants and needs when it comes to schooling.

Fortier began his position as campus manager at the college on July 7, and has hit the ground running while easing into day-to-day operations.

“Things are a little bit quiet during the summertime, so that’s giving me a chance to really orient myself to the programs and some of the operations here at the college,” Fortier said.

He will look to grow the marketing aspect of the campus, along with creating a learning hub model for students. This would allow students to complete their schoolwork at the Golden campus but feel like a part of the main campus in Cranbrook.

Prior to joining the college, he held senior positions with Alberta Health Services and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

Fortier hopes to implement a “dual-credit programming” which would give high school students the opportunity to take college credit courses.

“They kind of get a jump-start on post-secondary education … in a very bite-sized manner, so it’s not overwhelming,” Fortier said.

He’s looking to implement it for the 2026/27 school year with conversations and planning to begin soon.

“There are some logistics that need to be worked out.”

Fortier highlighted his excitement about working with the town of Golden and the business community.

“I think there’s lots of opportunity for collaboration in the trades areas, and make a pathway for the learner to get into that recruitment process a little bit easier,” he said.

Overall, Fortier said that he’s anticipating a great experience as campus manager in Golden.

“It’s a really beautiful valley; it’s a fantastic area to come and visit.”
