Revelstoke family-owned restaurant launches weekly charity event

The Den at Mackenzie Village in Revelstoke is introducing Charity Night Tuesdays, a weekly event where local non-profit organizations can raise money through food sales.

Kris Lakatos, a marketing specialist at Mackenzie Village, helps run The Den with her parents, the owners of the restaurant. She said the idea sparked from a Whistler food spot called CreekBread.

“They’ve really institutionalized this incredible year over year fundraising effort,” she said.

Lakatos added that her family truly appreciated their charitable initiative.

“How can we adopt and bring something to Revelstoke because we have so many beautiful non-profit organizations that can continuously reach out for support,” she said.

Every Tuesday night, one organization will be featured and 10 per cent of all food sales will go directly to their cause. According to Lakatos, the Revelstoke Cycling Association and the Grizzlies have booked a Tuesday night.

She said one of the biggest challenges they could face is consistency.

“It’s open to everyone in the community and we’d like to partner with as many different organizations as possible.”

Lakatos hopes many people will participate this new weekly events, support a good cause and have a reason to go out on a Tuesday night.
