RCMP news release on crime update in Salmon Arm throughout July.

Salmon Arm RCMP have been kept busy this week, responding to several calls across the community.

On July 8, the term ‘cat burglar’ took a literal turn when police responded to an abandoned 9-1-1 call, with a woman reporting someone breaking into her house, but later said “oh, it was my cat,” before hanging up.

Police confirmed a catastrophe had been avoided.

Meanwhile, police weren’t buying a 42-year-old woman who claimed she “didn’t do it”, after they found stolen contents in her motel room in Salmon Arm.

At 10:40 a.m. on  July 10, a local hotel manager reported a guest had their wallet stolen, and the they were holding the suspect trapped in a room.

Police allege the suspect entered the hotel, claiming to be the sister of a guest, before going into the guest’s room, while pretending to be a maintenance employee.

The victim told police that their wallet was missing after the suspect left their room, but they didn’t see her take it.

Salmon Arm RCMP entered the room the suspect held in and arrested her for theft under $5000. Meanwhile, the victim’s wallet and all its contents were located after the suspect informed police they were behind the headboard, but she “didn’t do it.”

The woman was released with a future court date, while the investigation remains ongoing.
