Salmon Arm RCMP is introducing the newest member of their team, a Ford Lightning electric police truck.
The truck has been in operation for a few weeks now, and the city is ready to make formal introductions to the community.
Mayor Alan Harrison and Staff Sergeant Simon Scott discuss the truck, saying the vehicle drives quietly and has got pace.
The truck was provided by the federal government as part of a pilot project they are implementing, reinforcing sustainability within the police environment.
According to Sgt Scott, there is a commercial-grade charger installed on the detachment.
“Free of charge,” Simon said.
Simon added that assessing battery life and how the truck operates as a police vehicle will be part of the feedback process.
Locals and visitors can expect to see the vehicle patrolling the city streets for the next few years.
“Hopefully not in your rearview mirror,” Harrison said.
