The second annual Stronger Together Golf Tournament at Talking Rock Golf Course will tee off Sept. 13.
What’s new to this fundraising event is the two hole-in-one prize giveaways, in addition to the air cannon at one of the holes.
According to Debbie Seymour, executive director of the North Shuswap Chamber of Commerce, the feedback from last year’s tournament was extremely positive.
Seymour reflected on recent wildfires, saying that the community needs to support infrastructure. She added that there is limited funding to be able to help different community groups.
Last year, the tournament raised $4300 with some of the proceeds were given to the North Shuswap Elementary School, including purchasing jerseys for the children.
“There’s lots of projects to work on to help the area and neighbouring communities,” Seymour said.
She noted the trails in Scotch Creek.
“It would be great to start project to connect trails. The roads are windy … it’s unsafe to be walking, as there’s lots of traffic in the summer.”
She also mentioned that the North Shuswap area is looking for space to build community centre to house the food bank and daycare centre.
“If we could earn more, it would allow us to do more in the community.”
She said she hopes that there are more projects that they pursue, through the fundraising at the golf tournament, to get residents excited about where they live and its growth.
