E-scooter pilot project confirmed ‘a-go’ in Salmon Arm

E-scooter operation is now legal, along with rules.

People over the age of 16 will have access to the use of electronic scooters starting Sept. 30, as the City of Salmon Arm is joining BC’s Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Program.

There are rules that riders must follow when operating their scooters. Riders must stay as close as they can to the right side of the road with a maximum speed of 25 km/h. A helmet is required during use, along with individual riders only – passengers are not permitted, and driving on sidewalks is prohibited.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, electric kick scooters are a popular,
affordable and convenient way to get around.

“They (e-scooters) also are a form of active and clean transportation, and support access to public transit,” the ministry stated.

The City announced their participation in the pilot project on Tuesday, August 12, on social media.

The City clarified that the rentals of e-scooters are not permitted at this time, though residents or visitors are allowed to operate their own.

This adoption of the pilot program would have no financial impact.
