Automotive community in Salmon Arm paying tribute through ‘cruise in’

Lakeview Cruise in, along with Shuswap Coffee and Cars, is dedicating its weekly event this Friday, Aug. 29, to Quinton Watson, a member of the automotive community who recently passed away.

Preston Johnston, one of the organizers, said Watson was always supporting the Friday night cruise in and this is a fitting tribute to him.

“He was always just a super nice guy and he was always really kind and friendly to me when I was new in town and supporting our event when we were trying to get it off the ground.”

Preston spoke with Watson’s family, who have one special request for this event.

“If we are going to do it, we need to do it BIG. We need to make sure this is a gathering of cars that nobody can forget. We need to spread the word of this event as far as wide as we can. We need to give Quinton a proper send off,” Preston said.

The cruise will meet at the main plaza in Sorrento between 5:15-5:30 p.m. From there, it will head to Westgate Public Market in Salmon Arm for the 6 p.m. start time of their weekly event.

Johnston said that this event is a place where Watson’s friends, family and people that knew him or even acquaintances with him through the car scene can all have a place to come together and share stories.

“Try to have a laugh cause Quinton was a hilarious guy and to come together as a community and say goodbye. If we have a huge turnout of cars and people can come and enjoy the event and it brought some positivity into the community, that’s all i can ask for,” Johnston said.
