The Meadows in the Sky Parkway and trails above Columbia Viewpoint will be closed until Friday, Sept. 5, due to a prescribed fire in the area. All traffic, pedestrians and cyclists are prohibited from entering.
Parks Canada said fire crews will use the prescribed fire this Wednesday, Sept. 2, to try an limit the spread of wildfires on the front face of Mount Revelstoke, while maintaining and restoring ecological integrity. The goal is to create a landscape level fuel break.
Parks Canada said prescribed fires are only done under specific conditions involving weather, moisture, wind direct and supporting resources.
The city of Revelstoke could see some smoke and flames during the week. Helicopter ignition and bucketing may also take place.
