Porcupine Valley prescribed fire update

Smoke, flames and water being dispensed from helicopters is to be expected, as Parks Canada is planning on continuing their prescribed fire operation in Porcupine Valley, today, Sept. 5.

The 3,300-hectare fire is taking place in Yoho National Park in the Porcupine Valley, which is approximately 17km southwest of Field, and 3-4km northwest of Hoodoo Creek Campground.

Parks Canada is reminding those that smoke from wildfires have begun moving into the region. Denser and more visible smoke can be expected.

They also want to remind people the prescribed fire planning is quite complex, and that a single prescribed fire plan can take years to complete, where exact conditions are needed before they start.

The Porcupine Valley and the Mount Hunter trail is closed until further notice.
