Rail Trail ribbon cutting to celebrate reopening

There will be a community ribbon cutting at the Rail Trail to celebrate the reopening of the Splatsin te Secwépemc / Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail along Mara Lake, on Wednesday, Sept 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m

The ribbon cutting will take place at the beginning at Kilometre Bridge and is accessible at Kilometre 0.5. People wishing to attend must park at one of the new Sicamous parking lots on Finlayson St. or Main St. off Riverside Ave.

Attendees will make their way to the Martin St. ferry shuttle to go across the Narrows to the event, with the shuttle operating from 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for the event.

As for the Sicamous Ferry, it will run through September. The continued service further into the fall season is dependent on community support.

More repairs are required and will proceed in the fall and winter once environmental reviews are complete and low-water window permits are in place.

Full access from Sicamous to the Rail Trail is anticipated in 2027.
