Golden hockey team featured in ‘Quick Shift’

The Golden Rockets are next in line for the The Kootenay International Junior A Hockey League (KIJHL) Quick Shift.

The Rockets finished fifth in the Eddie Mountain division last season. The team just missed the play off by three points.

Jed Houseman, head coach and general manager, heads into the season feeling really good about his team.

Along with acquiring 20-year-old Evan Leggett from the Williams Lake Mustangs, Houseman added Beck Boiteau in a trade with the SJHL’s Estevan Bruins.

“We are really liking what we see out of Boiteau,” said Houseman in the Quick Series release. “We’re excited to have him and he has been working hard with our goaltending coach Josh Thorimbert for a while.”

Houseman said that their team bonding has created a strong cohesion of the group.

“I think that camaraderie amongst the group and just having a lot of good character, good humans is going to go a long way for us,” said Houseman. “We’re excited and that chemistry will help the culture.”

Houseman wants to pick up where they left off from last season and continue building the confidence that was growing.

The Rockets will have the Fernie Ghostriders on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025 at 6 p.m.
