Mount Revelstoke start clean up after prescribed fire

Fire crews are continuing to extinguish priority areas, remove danger trees near trails and Parkway Road as they’ve completed the helicopter ignition on Mount Revelstoke over the weekend.

Parks Canada said this will be the final prescribed fire update for this operation unless conditions change. The Meadow in the Sky Parkway and trails above the Columbia Viewpoint will remain closed until further notice.

When it’s safe to reopen, restrictions to certain areas may continue throughout the fall.

There will be some smoke in the sky, along with flames and helicopter flying and water bucketing being visible in Revelstoke this week.

Parks Canada said the Fire Management Team would like to thank the community of Revelstoke for their patience and support comments while this important wildfire risk-reduction project is actioned.
