Sorrento resident rescued from house fire

A Sorrento man is on his way to full recovery after he was rescued by fire crews from a residence that was engulfed in flames early morning on Saturday, Sept. 20.

The Shuswap Fire Department responded to a the fire and was alerted by a resident that there was still one man inside the burning building. The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said that fire crews immediately analyzed the situations and determined entry to the house was possible.

A CSRD firefighter successful pulled the man to safety after the man had fallen to the floor, overcome by smoke. He was assessed by BC Ambulance crews and was taken to hospital.

The fire was reported at 1:35 a.m. and the Shuswap Fire Department responded immediately, and were on scene within five minutes of being dispatched.

It took firefighters around two and a half hours to get the blaze under control, and crews remained on scene until 8:30 a.m. to ensure nothing was still burning. The cause of the fire has been deemed not suspicious in nature, but the cause is still under investigation.
