Campfire ban in Salmon Arm to be lifted next week

The City of Salmon Arm has announced that the Category 1 Campfire Ban will be lifted on Monday, Sept. 29 at 12 p.m.

What this means that campfires will be permitted with a valid permit only. Permits are available at City Hall for i$10 per calendar year.

Despite the lifted ban, there will be regulations put in place. The City said the fire must be in a permanent fixture (max 77 cm diameter, 21 to 61cm in height), dry and seasoned fire wood must be used, a minimum of 5 metres from property lines, structures or brush, and fires must be fully extinguished by 11 p.m.

The City also said that certified propane or gas stoves and fire pits are also allowed. Burn barrels, chimineas, tiki torches, sky lanterns and fireworks will remain prohibited.
