Natural resource permitting improvements feedback in Sicamous

There are 16 topics and surveys that require feedback for B.C.’s natural resource permitting improvements.

The District of Sicamous said the community has a strong interest in making sure that permitting processes are “efficient and effective”, since they are surround by lakes and rivers.

The District encourages everyone to participate in providing their feedback, especially those who have experience in permitting processes.

Until Oct. 17, the public can take multiple surveys that look at construction dewatering, low-volume water use (exemptions), constructing ice roads (exemptions), administrative penalties timelines, stream restoration and Riparian Areas Protection Regulation enhancements.

Open until Dec. 12 the public can provide feedback for:

  • Low volume water use – streamlined authorization
  • Groundwater application – expediting applications
  • Changes in and about a stream – best practices
  • Changes in and about a stream – streamlining permitting
  • Managing all wetland classes
  • Wetland – mitigation hierarchy
  • Wetland conservation – offset payments
  • Wetland identification and delineation manual
  • Wetland profession accountability
  • Streamlining Forest Act permitting

The District also listed the province’s goal for these surveys and improvement processes which are to make permitting quicker and easier, to remove barriers and delays, to prevent and eliminate duplicates, and to maintain high environmental standards.
