The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) are planning to conduct a prescribed fire east of the Seymour Arm, and could start as early as tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said the prescribed burn will in a 54 hectare area. Smoke may be visible from neighbouring areas.
The BCWS said this fire aims to help restore forest health and to support a properly functioning ecosystem. The burn will intend to remove forest fuels to reduce wildfire risk in the long term.
The timing of ignition is weather and site dependent. The CSRD said burning will take place if conditions are suitable and will allow for smoke disperse. Smoke may linger for a few days.
