The Salmon Arm RCMP have noticed an increase in vehicle theft over the past few months.
Police are advising drivers not to keep their belongings and valuables inside their vehicles, especially keys.
Their most recent reports released included a car being stolen from the owner, who was working out at a public gym in Salmon Arm, and had left his keys in the centre console.
Police said the stolen vehicle made it all the way to Vernon before being stopped, and an arrest was made. Another report included a stolen wallet from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the city. Cash, identification, credit cards and bank cards were all taken.
Police said that thefts involving vehicles are “crimes of opportunity”, and that keeping valuables and the vehicle safe includes taking preventative measures.
