The prescribed fire east of the Seymour Arm is now complete. On Oct. 15, fire crews cleaned up small pockets of unburnt fuel.
BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the burn project supported the BC Timber Sales that started last week, on Oct. 9. The burn was located east of the Seymour Arm on the east side of Seymour Arm Bay Road.
Approximately 54 hectares of the area were burned. The goals of the burn were to help restore forest health and a healthy ecosystem, and to remove forest fuels to reduce the risk of wildfires long-term.
BCWS said fire is a normal way and natural process in many of B.C.’s ecosystems. They said these projects are carefully planned and only happen if conditions allow.
