One person dead following fatal crash on Trans Canada Highway in Salmon Arm

A person has died after a head-on collision on the Trans Canada Highway east of 20th Ave. NE in Salmon Arm last night.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, at approximately 8:59 p.m., Salmon Arm RCMP and emergency services attended a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a Buick sedan. First responders determined the lone driver of the Buick had died.

The incident saw the Trans Canada Highway close just after midnight for investigation, which determined that the driver of the Buick was travelling westbound in the opposite lane, driving into oncoming traffic.

Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is cooperating with the investigation.

“The Salmon RCMP would like to offer their condolences to the friends and family of the person who died,” Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson, said.

Urano is reminding drivers to be mindful of their surroundings. “We would like to always remind the public to slow down and drive to the conditions. Additionally, please remember to use winter tires this winter.”
