Mayor Alan Harrison agreed that Cannon was fit to take leadership in preparing the event given her experience. “[She] chatted with hometown hockey and 55+ BC Games, now it’s FIFA World Cup,” he said.

Council unanimously voted to support applying for the Union of B.C. Municipalities grant, in the amount of $75,000. Cannon said she is planning to the viewing party on Sunday, July 19.

She said if the grant is awarded, they will go ahead with the planning of the event.
