Supporting local food growth in Splatsin

Crews from Splatsin Homes are building garden beds to boost local food production and support families in the community.

The project is a partnership with the Splatsin daycare, Tsm7aksaltn Teaching Centre, and the Splatsin Food Sovereignty Committee. It is designed to give children hands-on opportunities to learn how food is grown while strengthening connections to the land.

In a statement, Splatsin said the garden beds will help provide fresh food for both the daycare and the wider community, while supporting local food security efforts.

“The Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn Society plays an important role in early childhood development, integrating culture, language, and community into everyday learning and this project builds on that foundation in a practical, meaningful way,” the statement said.

Splatsin added the initiative reflects a broader goal of building a strong, connected community, not just housing.
