Water restrictions implemented all-year-round, reminds City of Salmon Arm

Did you know the City of Salmon Arm has water restrictions in place year-round?

The city posted a reminder on social media saying that, as warmer weather arrives, it is a good time to refresh front and back yards.

“If you are planting new sod or grass seed, extra watering is not automatically allowed,” it said.

The city said a watering permit is required for additional irrigation. Permits are available at city hall during Stage 1 and Stage 2 only. Established lawns need only “1 to 1.5” inches of water per week to promote deep root growth.

“These measures help conserve water while supporting healthy growth for newly planted lawns.”

Stage 1 water restrictions are currently in effect. Stage 1 applies year-round, while other stages are activated as required, depending on environmental conditions, water system capacity and demand.

There are three groups divided into watering schedules:

Group A (00-33) can water on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.
Group B (34-66) can water on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Group C (67-99) can water on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

The City of Salmon Arm said the numbers in parentheses refer to the last two digits of a street address. Stratas and mobile home parks must use the street address, not the unit address.

Failure to comply with these restrictions may result in a fine of $50 to $500, depending on the stage.
