A response contractor and environmental consultant remain on site in Scotch Creek as cleanup efforts continue following a diesel spill last week.
B.C.’s Environment Ministry said crews are working to contain and identify contaminants in the affected area.
The estimated amount of diesel released has been updated to about 4,000 litres. Assessments are also underway to determine potential impacts on groundwater and drinking water supplies.
Interior Health advised private well users in Scotch Creek to take precautions following a large diesel spill at a local gas station on May 5 at about 7:30 p.m.
The health authority said people who rely on private wells for drinking water should monitor their water for possible impacts. Planning is underway to remove contaminated soil and mitigate contaminants.
The advisory applies to dwellings south of and including Butters Road, Saratoga Road and Kenwood Gate.
The Environment Ministry said it continues to monitor response activities and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
