Province calling on Shuswap residents for input on forest management plan

The provincial government is inviting residents of the southern Thompson-Okanagan to help guide forest management.

Residents can participate in surveys and attend open houses to provide feedback about what they value in local forests. The feedback will help guide development of the Thompson River Watersheds Forest Landscape Plan.

The plan is being developed in partnership with First Nations to support forest stewardship, sustainability and community priorities. Representatives from 17 First Nations communities within the Secwépemc, Nlaka’pamux, Syilx and St’át’imc nations have partnered with the province on the Thompson River watersheds plan.

People interested in participating can attend open houses next month in Salmon Arm, Chase and Coldstream.

The open house in Chase is scheduled for June 3 at the Chase Community Hall from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Salmon Arm session is scheduled for June 4 at the Little Mountain Field House from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

For Vernon-area residents, an open house is planned for June 8 at the Coldstream Community Hall from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

People can also share their views through a survey running from May 20 to July 20, the province said.
