Community welcomes Enderby Icemen to the WIJHL

The City of Enderby announced it will serve as the home ice for the Enderby Icemen, a new franchise in the Western International Junior Hockey League.

In a statement, the city said the partnership marks a major victory for local sports.

Mayor Huck Galbraith said Enderby is a hockey town.

“Hosting the Enderby Icemen at our arena is a win for our entire sports culture,” he said. “I know our community will show up loud and proud. I cannot wait to hear the arena rocking when our team takes the ice. It is going to be electric!”

The city added that the arrival of the Enderby Icemen will add a new chapter to the hockey culture shared by the city and Rural Enderby Area F.

The move will establish the John Pritchard Memorial Sports Complex as a hub for local athletes and fans.

Enderby and District Services Commission chair and Regional District of North Okanagan Area F director Allysa Hopkins said the team will be a centrepiece for community spirit.

“This adds another layer of excitement to our facility,” Hopkins said. “We have a fantastic venue and the best people to fill the stands and root for our team. I am thrilled to see the energy that junior hockey will bring to our winter season. Let’s go, Icemen!”

The city said fans can watch for upcoming announcements regarding the full league schedule, tickets, merchandise and a home-opener celebration as the Enderby Icemen prepare for their debut season.
