Sun’s out shade’s out in Salmon Arm’s Ross Street Plaza

Notice anything different at Ross Street Plaza in downtown Salmon Arm?

Bright yellow, blue and green shade sails have been installed at the plaza to help create a cooler, more welcoming gathering space in time for downtown events.

The City of Salmon Arm partnered with Downtown Salmon Arm on the project. Mayor Alan Harrison said the new sails are an asset to the city.

In a social media video, Downtown Salmon Arm manager Jennifer Broadwell said the organization had wanted to install the sails for a long time to offer shade to visitors.

“We just want to create this beautiful, comfortable place, an extension of your living room,” Broadwell said. “We are an outdoor community which makes it easier to all outdoor together in the heart of downtown.”

The sails were sourced from Revelstoke. Crews will travel to Salmon Arm twice a year to inspect the shade sails and help ensure they remain in good condition for years to come.

Broadwell added the colourful additions are another way Downtown Salmon Arm continues to create inviting public spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the summer.
