CSRD invites residents to shape the future of parks and recreation

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is inviting residents to help shape the future of parks, trails and recreation services through the preparation of a parks and recreation plan.

In a statement, the CSRD said the plan will guide long-term planning, decision-making and investment in parks and recreation services across electoral areas A, C, D, E, F and G.

Officials said that while Electoral Area B is not included in the plan, residents from Electoral Area B are encouraged to share their input on regional parks and recreation services.

“Parks and recreation are at the heart of healthy, vibrant communities,” Derek Sutherland, general manager of community and protective services, said. “We encourage residents to share their ideas and experiences so we can plan for spaces and services that reflect what matters most to our region now and into the future.”

The plan aims to understand current and future park and recreation needs and identify gaps in services, facilities and access.

The CSRD said the plan is also designed to ensure everyone has access to parks and recreation opportunities, strengthen partnerships with community organizations and local governments, and help prioritize where investments and improvements should be made.

The regional district added that community input will play a central role in shaping the plan. Over the coming weeks, the CSRD will host a variety of engagement opportunities, including open houses and pop-up events.

Meanwhile, a parks and recreation survey is now open for the public to share its priorities. The survey deadline is July 17, 2026.
