Four people in hospital following head-on collision east of Salmon Arm

Four people were seriously injured in a head-on collision east of Salmon Arm over the weekend and remain in hospital.

Salmon Arm RCMP said a Toyota Corolla crossed the centre line while attempting to pass another vehicle on Highway 1 near Kangaroo Road and collided with a westbound semi-truck.

Police said the Corolla had four occupants, with one able to exit the vehicle on their own. The other three were trapped and extricated using the “jaws of life.” All four occupants were taken to hospital and were believed to be in stable but critical condition.

The Corolla apparently spun off the road into the eastbound ditch, with the engine also being ejected. The semi-truck and trailer appeared to lose control and went off the road into the eastbound-side ditch. The semi driver was not injured and is co-operating with police.

Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Sicamous remained closed for much of the day while investigators examined the crash scene.

Salmon Arm RCMP thanked BC Emergency Health Services, the Salmon Arm Rescue Unit, the Eagle Valley Rescue Society and the Salmon Arm Fire Department for their efforts in extricating the three occupants.

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage who has not spoken with Salmon Arm RCMP are asked to call 250-832-6044 and reference file 2026-3553.
