A 34-year-old man remains in custody after an alleged road rage incident involving a machete on the Trans-Canada Highway near Tappen, B.C.
Salmon Arm RCMP said officers received a report of a road rage incident at about 8:09 a.m. on Aug. 28.
Police said a man got out of a red Honda Civic holding a machete in a threatening manner toward another driver before returning to the vehicle and continuing eastbound.
RCMP located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but police said the driver fled.
“The vehicle was observed committing numerous violations under the Motor Vehicle Act while it continued east bound,” police said in a statement.
Sicamous RCMP set up a roadblock at the east end of the Bruhn Bridge.
Police said the driver attempted to turn around on the bridge but was blocked by Salmon Arm RCMP officers.
RCMP alleged the driver fought with police and resisted arrest, requiring four officers to take him into custody.
The man was held for a bail hearing.
RCMP said prosecutors approved five charges: possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, wilfully resisting a peace officer, flight from police while operating a vehicle and dangerous operation of a conveyance.
Police said the man was remanded in custody by a judge.
