Poll finds B.C. Conservative support drops under new leader Findlay

A new poll found support for the B.C. Conservatives has fallen under new leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay, with the party trailing the B.C. NDP by 10 percentage points.

Poll results released by Ipsos on Tuesday found B.C. Conservative party support among decided voters fell eight points since the October 2024 provincial election, to 35 per cent.

Ipsos said the B.C. NDP has 45 per cent support, which is unchanged from the election.

The B.C. Greens made some gains since 2024 and were up two points to 10 per cent.

The poll found close to half of British Columbians had a negative impression of Findlay, including more than one-third that said they had a very unfavourable impression of her.

Just 17 per cent said they had a favourable impression of Findlay.

Among B.C. Conservative party supporters, close to half had a positive impression of the leader.

That compares with more than 80 per cent of B.C. NDP supporters who had a favourable impression of Premier David Eby.

Overall, the poll found 41 per cent of respondents viewed Eby favourably. Thirty per cent had negative impressions, including 18 per cent very unfavourable.

The poll found most British Columbians had either a neutral opinion or had not heard of other main party leaders Emily Lowan (BC Greens), Dallas Brodie (OneBC) and Mike Bernier (CentreBC).

The poll did not include the as-yet-unnamed new political party led by Peter Milobar, which currently has seven seats in the legislature.

Respondents were also asked their impressions about Prime Minister Mark Carney and federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.

A little over half of B.C. residents had a favourable impression of Carney, while a quarter were negative about him.

Meanwhile, half of B.C. residents had an unfavourable impression of Poilievre, compared with three-in-ten with a favourable impression.

Poilievre had a better impression among B.C. Conservatives, who were 75 per cent positive toward him. That was 27 points more than favourable impressions of Findlay among her party’s supporters.
