The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have identified human remains found last week on Yankee Flats Road near Salmon Arm.
Police said the remains have been positively identified as Deanna Mildred Wertz, who had been missing for more than 10 years.
Wertz was reported missing to police on July 22, 2016, after she was last seen at her Yankee Flats Road home on July 19. Police said criminality is not suspected in her death.
“This investigation has remained active for many years, and we recognize how difficult this has been for her family and those who knew and loved her,” Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.
“While this is not the outcome anyone had hoped for, we hope that finding Deanna brings some measure of closure, and we extend our sincerest condolences to her family.”
Police said no additional details will be released.
