New hangar development at Shuswap Regional Airport

The City of Salmon Arm is moving ahead with new hangar development at Shuswap Regional Airport.

City council has authorized three new 10-year lease agreements for newly created airport lots, supporting the development of aviation-related hangars.

The city launched a request for expressions of interest after identifying limited availability of new lease lots and strong interest in hangar development at the airport.

City officials said “successful proponents will be responsible for obtaining all required City permits and approvals and meeting applicable zoning, building and aviation requirements.”

Leaseholders will also be required to obtain a building permit within two years of entering into an agreement, a condition intended to ensure the limited airport space moves toward active development.

The city said the agreements provide greater certainty around lease costs during the initial planning and construction period.

Annual adjustments based on the B.C. Consumer Price Index will continue to apply.
