Revelstoke Fire Rescues responds to residential fire

Fire department reminding residents to check their smoke alarms.

Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services responded to a residential structure fire on Pearkes Drive at 2:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug, 12. Six response vehicles were on scene including 17 firefighters.

Crews encountered heavy smoke in the basement of the resident upon arrival. No flames
were visible at the time of entry, and the fire did not extend into the structure. The fire was
confirmed out approximately 20 minutes later.

No injuries were reported among the occupants or fire crew. Revelstoke Fire is reminding residents to check smoke alarms, as the residents were alerted of the fire by their functioning smoke alarm and were able evacuate promptly and safely.

“This is a perfect example showing that working smoke alarms save lives and property. Test your alarms regularly and, if battery-operated, replace the batteries at least once a year,” said Fire Chief, Steven DeRousie in a statement.

The investigation of the fire is still ongoing, but evidence is showing appliance failure.
