After receiving funding from BC Hydro, the Town of Golden has planted 21 new trees to produce more shade, support a health urban tree canopy, as well as replace trees that were previously removed.
New trees have been planted in various parks such as, Keith King Memorial Park, Alexander Park, Dogwood Park and Confluence Park.
These newer trees can also be found at the local cemetery, the Reflection Lake parking area, the SE Administration Building, 9th St S and 11th Ave S.
Golden was awarded $8,000 from the Community ReGreening Grant. This funding was a major help, as the money offset the total cost of planting over $10,000 worth of trees.
Meanwhile, supplies, equipment and labour were covered by the Town.
BC Hydro runs the Community ReGreening program which supports the planting of trees, herbage and vegetation that help grow various ecological infrastructure and ecosystem networks across the province.
The grant funds small-scale community planting projects and all municipal and Indigenous Nations’ governments within BC Hydro’s service area are able to apply.
