Learning while camping, educational opportunity in Revelstoke.

Wildsight, a non-profit organization geared towards protecting and conserving biodiversity in many communities in B.C., is inviting Columbia Basin residents to participate their educational field tours in Revelstoke.

Taking place in September, residents will learn about the Columbia River through two ‘Columbia River Conversations’ Field Tours, and by camping along the river as well. Revelstoke participants will learn about ‘Upper Columbia’ and will camp at Blanket Creek Provincial Park.

Through interactive and hands-on learning, participants will gain knowledge on Columbia River’s timeline.

Program lead, Graeme Lee Rowlands, said in a new release that spending time in places that are facing environmental issues is essential to understanding them. “The Columbia Basin is a vast and complex watershed with an even more complex future, and it’s equally important to learn from a wide range of perspectives.”

The Revelstoke Field Tours will take place on Sept. 5 through 7. There, participants will:

  • Visit Stories Beneath the Surface Exhibit at the Revelstoke Museum and Archives
  • Tour with BC Hydro at Revelstoke Dam
  • Partake in interpretive walking talks along the Columbia River and Arrow Lakes Reservoir
  • Learnin and discuss through interactive sessions about watershed topics including a focus on Arrow Lakes Reservoir water levels, the Columbia River Treaty and salmon reintroduction
  • Camping, socialize and share meals with other campers

Columbia River Conversations is based on Wildsight’s eight years of experience, teaching people about the Columbia River.

If interested in joining the Revelstoke ‘Upper Columbia’ tour, there is a short application that must be filled out.
