People looking to walk the Rail trail this weekend are in luck.
Kilometre 2.8 to Kilomtere 14.8 of the Splatsin te Secwépemc Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail along Mara Lake will reopen on Saturday, Aug. 30.
This section of the trail was previously closed for culvert installation and drainage improvements.
The CSRD said despite the reopening, trail users should anticipate further work later in the year to complete additional erosion repairs along the section. They said the erosion repairs require full environmental reviews and can only take place in designated low water periods.
Once permits are received, repairs will take place during the fall and winter.
Walking, bicycling and pedal assisted use of electronic bikes are allowed in this section of the trail. The CSRD asks cyclists to keep their speed at 30km/hour or less and yield to pedestrians.
While Kilometre 2.8 to Kilometre 14.8 is reopening, full access to the Rail Trail will not be completed until 2027 because of delayed construction of the Bruhn Bridge. The Sicamous Ferry will run during September to Kilometre 0.5 of the trail.
The CSRD said there is currently no access to south of Mara Lake. Construction of the Rail trail within the Agricultural Lan Reserve remains on hold.
