Watermain flushing is scheduled for Sorrento tomorrow as part of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District’s annual maintenance program.
Flushing will take place on the Sorrento water system from Wednesday, May 6 to Friday, May 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The CSRD said flushing may result in reduced pressure and discolouration of the water, which generally clears up in a short period of time.
“Do not consume coloured or turbid water,” the CSRD instructed. “If discoloured, run the cold tap for a few minutes until it runs clear.”
Due to increased turbidity, a water quality advisory will be in place on the system during flushing.
During flushing, residents are directed not to run water-reliant appliances such as hot water tanks, dishwashers, washing machines and ice dispensers. The CSRD also advises residents not to fill pools or hot tubs or take baths or showers.
People with weakened immune systems or those seeking additional protection should take precautions when drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing their teeth.
The advisory will remain in place until testing by Interior Health shows the water is safe to drink from the tap, which can take up to a week.
