“They were ice cubes”: Shuswap Paws saves 7 kittens

The Shuswap Paws Rescue Society has saved seven 9-day-old kittens who nearly froze to death in Sorrento.

In a social media post, Shuswap Paw’s Barbara Gosselin said they were rushed to her. “To say they were cold was an understatement,” she said. “They were ice cubes.”

She said that some kittens were not breathing and some were taking a breath every few seconds, noting that it sounded like they were dying.

“Incubating, massaging and warming was top priority,” Gosselin said. “We had to get them breathing and warm blood flowing.”

She added that after a while and a lot of effort, they were moving, crying and suckling.
“I honestly didn’t think most would survive,” she noted. “But they are all warm and fed and napping in their incubator.”
Gosselin said they are going to name the babies after warm places so they don’t have to think of the cold again.
