Enderby youth aged 13 to 18 can now ride for free on Vernon local transit routes, as part of the new Free Transit for Youth program, which launched Oct. 1.
Free transit is available to eligible youth aged 13 to 18 on Vernon Local Transit routes 1 through 9, 60 and 61. The program excludes Route 90 with service to Kelowna.
Since launching, over 1,200 students have registered for their free pass.
“The program makes it easier for youth to get to school, work, recreational activities and community events, while helping families save on transportation costs,” the City said in its statement.
“It also encourages greater independence and provides an opportunity for youth to become familiar with public transit as a convenient and sustainable way to travel.”
Youth interested in registering for a free pass can visit the Vernon City Hall, Vernon Library, Regional District of North Okanagan Office, Enderby Municipal Hall and Armstrong City Hall.
Applicants must provide proof of age, such as a birth certificate, BC Services Card, driver’s licence, passport or current school-year student ID.
Youth Passes are valid from Oct. 1, 2026 to Sept. 30, 2027 with annual registration and eligibility verification required.
Once registered, riders can scan their Umo Mobility App or tap their Umo Card each time they board the bus. While the ride is free, a valid Youth Pass must be used for every trip.
