Shuswap Community Foundations launches volunteer awards program

The Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF) has launched a new awards program to honour volunteers.

The Heart of the Shuswap Volunteer Awards program recognizes youth and adult volunteers who the SCF said have demonstrated “exceptional community service in the Shuswap”.

“We are introducing an awards program to recognize the immense impact that volunteers have in our communities,” Monica Sigurdson, SCF executive director said. “There are many wonderful people who have gone above and beyond to make a difference and this is our way of honouring two dedicated individuals while promoting the importance of philanthropy through volunteerism.”

The youth award is sponsored by Mawer Investment Management Ltd and will recognize a volunteer between the ages of 13 and 25. The adult volunteer award, sponsored by Bannister GM Salmon Arm, will recognize someone aged 26 or above.

Nominations are being received for the award and will be presented to the winners at the Heart of the Shuswap Mixer taking place on Sept. 18 at the Prestige Harbourfront Resort in Salmon Arm.

The SCF said nominations must be submitted via the Heart of the Shuswap Volunteer Awards Nomination form. Two letters of support are also requested.

Nominations are welcome from throughout the Shuswap region of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, including Indigenous communities, the City of Salmon Arm, the District of Sicamous and Electoral Areas C, D, E, F and G.

The deadline for all nomination materials is 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14. More information is available on the SCF website.
