A Salmon Arm food hub has received national recognition for its work supporting local food entrepreneurs.
Zest Commercial Food Hub received a Regional & Community Collaboration Award at the Economic Developers Association of Canada’s national conference in Moncton, N.B.
The food hub, operated as a division of the non-profit Salmon Arm Economic Development Society, provides local food producers and entrepreneurs with access to shared commercial kitchen space, specialized equipment, storage and business support.
The organization said the achievement belongs to the broader Shuswap community.
“Zest was built to lower barriers for local food creators, giving emerging artisans, farmers, caterers and home cooks.”
Users have access to equipment including a high-speed blast freezer and cold storage, along with food safety guidance, business support and opportunities to connect with other producers.
“Thank you to all our regional partners, local leadership, and amazing food entrepreneurs for turning a big idea into a thriving reality, we couldn’t do it without you.”
The organization credited regional partners and supporters including the Salmon Arm Economic Development Society, Community Futures Shuswap and the Economic Trust of the Southern Interior, among others.
