New construction and demolition kits in Thompson-Nicola Regional District

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has launched their new construction and demolition waste resource to help builders and DIYers effectively plan waste transportation before they start their project, as well as save money.

The Construction and Demolition Toolkit (C&D) will include guidance on waste diversion strategies, a directory of local recycling and salvage service, along with information on local disposal regulations.

The TNRD said the C&D Toolkit will also help those sort material for the regional landfill and change the way people see construction material, as they said it’s not always waste.

Additional resources have been presented by the TNRD such as the demolition waste and rates calculator, the asbestos risk and deconstruction search tool, and voluntary waste tracking forms.

“Construction and demolition waste makes up approximately 24 per cent of the total waste stream in the TNRD, which is a significant environmental challenge. By sorting materials like wood, metal, and concrete, not only can we divert reusable resources from the landfill, but large projects can also save thousand of dollars in disposal costs. It’s a win-win for both sustainability and the bottom line,” said Adriana Mailloux, Manager of Solid Waste and Recycling in the release.

Mailloux added that she hoped DIYers and contractors to put these resources to use and to start being money-efficient through these toolkits.
