Village of Chase asked for support on proposed facility

Residents across the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, including the Village of Chase, are being asked to weigh in on a proposed regional search and rescue hall and training facility.

The TNRD has launched an alternative approval process to seek approval for borrowing up to $6.3 million to build the facility in Kamloops and provide up to $100,000 annually for operating costs.

The proposed facility would be built at 4420 Devick Rd. in the Kamloops neighbourhood of Rayleigh, adjacent to the Yellowhead Highway.

Officials said the facility would serve as the headquarters for Kamloops Search and Rescue and as a regional training centre for search and rescue teams.

The Village of Chase said residents who support the project do not need to take any action. Residents opposed to the proposal have until June 26 to submit an elector response form.

If 10 per cent or more of eligible electors in the proposed service area submit a valid elector response form by the deadline, the alternative approval process would not pass.

Forms can be downloaded and printed online by following links, or picked up in-person at the TNRD Civic Building office or at the offices of 10 member municipalities, including Ashcroft, Barriere, Cache Creek, Chase, Clearwater, Clinton, Logan Lake, Merritt and Sun Peaks.
