B.C. Hockey League warns public of email scam

The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) is warning people about an online scam popping up in email inboxes.

The BCHL announced that they received multiple reports over the past week of convincing scam emails impersonating the league’s team staff.

“Unless you are receiving communication from an official team domain or a trusted contact, do not share information, send money or click on links,” they said.

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks also warned the public through social media posts, saying that all emails from their team will come from an “@silverbacks” email domain.

“Scammers have been sending convincing fake emails pretending to be team staff and contacting businesses in the community,” their post read.

They are asking anyone who has received a suspicious message claiming to be from the Silverbacks to forward the email to the team so they can report it.
