Thousands without power last night, more wind to come

Hold on to your hats, folks. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of strong wind gusts across the B.C. interior, including the Shuswap region.

The advisory was issued at 11 a.m. Monday, urging the public to prepare for strong winds beginning Monday night and continuing into Wednesday morning.

“These strong winds may lead to possible tree damages, local power outages and travel delay,” read their statement.

Thousands of Shuswap residents lost power for several hours last night due to fallen trees and damaged power lines. BC Hydro crews worked to get the power back on to residents in Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Magna Bay, Eagle Bay, Lee Creek, Chase and parts of Tappen. Over 7000 people were affected by powerful wind gusts.

Current updates can be found on the Environment Canada website.
