Residents are being reminded about the importance of having working smoke alarms after the Tappen-Sunnybrae Fire Department rescued a woman from a burning home.
On Friday, March 27, fire crews responded to a blaze inside a home on Mikkelson Frontage Road in Tappen.
Crews arrived to find the home filled with smoke and were told a woman was trapped inside. Firefighters located the woman and pulled her from the residence.
First aid was administered by firefighters and members of the South Shuswap First Responders before her care was transferred to B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics. The patient was then transported by air ambulance to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District said her condition is not known.
“We’d like to alert residents to the importance of having working smoke alarms in each bedroom and every floor of your home. Also, remember to conduct regular, monthly tests of these devices to make sure they are working properly,” Columbia Shuswap Regional District Deputy Regional Fire Chief Len Youden said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
