Shuswap Community Foundations launches campaign to revitalize heritage building

Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF) is launching a campaign to restore a Salmon Arm landmark.

The Preserving Heritage, Building Community fundraising campaign aims to raise $1.45 million for the restoration of the building, which was constructed in 1928.

As the new owners of the city’s first permanent municipal hall, SCF said they plan to revitalize the heritage building located at 31 Hudson Ave NE with a focus on heritage preservation, community and accessibility.

In a statement, SCF said they have already received more than $190,000 in funding.

SCF Executive Director Monica Sigurdson said early donations is a sign of how much the community cares about the building.

“Every donation we receive, large or small, makes a difference in terms of what we can achieve as we work towards creating a welcoming, accessible office space for the Foundation and an outdoor space that all community members can enjoy,” she said.

If the funds raised exceed project costs, the funds will be directed towards a dedicated building reserve for the long-term maintenance of 31 Hudson Ave NE.

Officials added that if the building reserve becomes fully funded, any remaining funds will be allocated to SCF’s Community Fund, which actively grants money back out to the community.
