Man arrested following string of vandalism in Salmon Arm

A 41-year-old man has been arrested following a string of vandalism incidents in Salmon Arm.

Salmon Arm RCMP responded Aug. 13 to multiple reports of a man smashing vehicle and business windows with rocks.

Police said they narrowed in on a suspect who was on the move.

One witness called police, provided the suspect’s location and pointed him out to officers after witnessing him smash several windows with rocks.

The man was arrested, taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

“Salmon Arm RCMP obtained charge approval for two counts of mischief under $5000 against 41-year-old Dwayne Sampson, who was remanded into custody by a judge on Aug. 14,” Constable Andrew Hodges of the Salmon Arm RCMP said.

Police said 18 vehicles, two business windows, a restaurant and a local car dealership were damaged.

Police said they were unable to locate most of the owners of the damaged vehicles because the incidents occurred at night.

Police said the bail hearing took place before investigators obtained most of the victim statements and additional charges could be laid.
