Remembrance Day is approaching, and the City of Salmon Arm has encouraged the public to show their support by wearing poppies.
The City announced that Mayor Alan Harrison received the first poppy of the season from Lance Ewan, president of the Salmon Arm Branch #62 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
The Legion’s Annual Poppy Campaign is underway, with funds being raised to support Canadian Veterans, their families and communities.
It is a local initiative, with donations collected being held in Trust at the branch level to directly support Veterans.
The campaign starts on Friday, Oct. 31 until Nov. 11. Legion said people usually wear a poppy from the last Friday in October until Remembrance Day.
The Poppy is a visual pledge to never forget the people who served and sacrificed for Canada.
