Two lanes of R.W. Bruhn Bridge now open to traffic

Two of the four lanes on the new R.W. Bruhn Bridge are now open to traffic.

On Oct. 30, the Aecon-Emil Anderson Construction GP officially opened the lanes, alongside the Splatsin Development Corporation and community members.

“We were honoured to have Splatsin lead an opening ceremony in recognition of the deep cultural significance of the area and provide a blessing on the new bridge prior to opening,” Emil Anderson Construction said in its social media post.

“The ceremony celebrated the many people who helped make it possible.”

Despite their past strained relationship, both the SDC and Aecon-Emil Anderson Construction GP were all smiles on the opening day.

In May 2025, Splatsin has created a blockade using dump trucks to bring construction to a halt. Work on the project stopped for two day. This was in response to what was characterized as “systemic exclusion and broken project agreements” by the contractors.

After the incident, Micheal Christian, Splatsin’s previous Kukpi7 said a commitment was renewed from all parties.

Daytime closures on Highway 1 are expected to remain in place until the 2027. Demolition work to remove the old bridge is still on the list of work that needs to be done.
